NetAccess Wins Outstanding Business Achievement Award

At a Gala affair held by the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce on March 26, NetAccess Systems Inc. was awarded the 2007 Outstanding Business Achievement award in the category of Communication Technology.

Having been nominated in years past has been an honour in itself to NetAccess, but being the winning recipient this year added an extra sparkle to the event as NetAccess Systems Inc. completes its 15th of providing Internet services.

"Winning the award would be a very gratifying capstone to 15 years of success in the Internet industry", Don McNally, VP of Corporate Development, was quoted as saying in the days preceding the event. At the podium, beside Gary Bannister, President and CEO, McNally graciously thanked all who contributed to their success, including "our wonderful staff", their board of directors, and especially their clients, the Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Hamilton.

Staffed by a group of 10, all of whom are from the Hamilton area, and supported by an extended network of IT and technology partners, NetAccess strives to maintain innovative, customer-centered service solutions in an industry that is in rapid and constant flux. This collaborative approach forms just a part of their unique value added service to clients that enables NetAccess to meet and exceed customer expectations, which in turn, has been key to developing a very loyal client base throughout the Greater Hamilton area. The City of Hamilton, the Hamilton and Halton Boards of Education, the Hamilton Police Services, and many other community organizations all had their first connection through NetAccess. As one of the original independent Internet service providers in the area, NetAccess remains to be one of Canada’s oldest independent ISPs.

Bandwidth Needs

Need to scale up your bandwidth? Turn on some redundancy and resiliency while doing so! As we continue into the future, the demand on your broadband internet connection increases. Bandwidth consumption, issues, and commentary have been all over the news lately. The move towards richer media content, dependency on Internet based services such as VoIP, IPTv, and with many companies moving to new online Internet based applications, these demands become more of a necessity than a novelty.

Bandwidth Graph

As you can see in the above chart, bandwidth forecasts are well exceeding the Moore's Law benchmark that we once thought we could follow to forecast traffic growth. Looking at a recent study, average 2007 IP traffic was over 9,000 terrabytes a day for public Internet usage. This study also shows that the forecasted average in 2012 will be over 21,000 terrabytes a day.

If your business platform relies on the Internet and you are forecasting growth in the usage of internet technologies, it would be worthwhile to look at the options available through NetAccess that provide additional bandwidth and redundancy. We offer two ADSL platforms, a line of sight wireless product, and ethernet based fibre-optic products that can all be built on to provide additional bandwidth.

Using our gateway access ADSL platform, up to 8 PPPoE style connections can be aggregated using Multilink bonding technology to achieve an additional performance and redundancy at a very affordable cost.

Our other ADSL platform, which is a bridged PVC style of ADSL uses an IP routing protocol on our provider edge routers and a router on the customer edge to achieve additional performance, redundancy, and resiliency. The bridged platform is architected differently end to end and thus allows for a number of benefits over the gateway access platform (most importantly):

  • lower latency
  • the ability to be used in solutions requiring private LAN extension technology
  • can be combined with our line of sight wireless and fibre optic products as means to provide a backup connection using alternate delivery media

We work with our clients to build custom solutions that standout from the regular canned solutions offered by other providers. If you are outgrowing your current needs, give us a call, and we'll strive to build you a solution which fits your current needs, and is scalable into the future. Network Upgrades

NetAccess has made a substantial investment in upgrading its internal network structure. The purchase of additional Cisco routers and switches has enabled NetAccess to upgrade its core network infrastructure to gigabit speeds as well as improved redundancy and reliability of its network. As an example, NetAccess has fully redundant and load balanced 100 Mbps Internet connections which use BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) and OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) routing protocols to provide the ultimate in network integrity and performance.
